“It sounds like a cliché, but it really has been a hope of mine — a dream — to play in America,” Stanton said in a press release. “I love that Phoenix is an ambitious club and I’m eager to help them achieve more success on the field.
“I’ve been doing some research and can’t wait to settle in and meet the team and supporters. I read that more Americans move to Phoenix than any other U.S. city. They can’t all be wrong.”
Stanton spent the last three seasons with Dundee United of the Scottish Championship (Scottish Second division), where he scored nine goals and notched seven assists in 77 appearances (5,782 minutes).
The midfielder began his professional career at the age of 17, compiling 19 goals and 12 assists for nine different clubs in that span.
Stanton becomes the club’s 20th signing ahead of the 2020 campaign.
