The Arizona Cardinals have cut one of their picks from the 2020 NFL Draft.
Linebacker Evan Weaver, selected in the sixth round with the No. 202 overall pick, was released by the Cardinals on Saturday as part of the cuts to trim the roster to 53 players.
ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss tweeted earlier in the day that the Cardinals may look to add Weaver to the practice squad.
In Weaver’s senior season at the University of California, Berkley, he recorded 181 total tackles, which set a Pac-12 single-season record and earned him the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
He was drafted by the Cardinals using the pick received from New England in the trade for offensive tackle Korey Cunningham.
Weaver was one of 16 players to be released by Arizona on Saturday. The NFL mandated teams to reduce their rosters to 53 players by 1 p.m.
On Friday, five players including wide receiver Hakeem Butler were cut from the Cardinals.
