The Arizona Board of Regents’ financial, capital and resources committee approved plans for a new $115 million hockey arena for Arizona State University on Thursday.
The next step of the process will be a vote from the full Arizona Board of Regents on Nov. 18.
The 5,000-seat arena would also be the new location for ASU gymnastics to compete, as well as the school’s wrestling and volleyball programs, per Phoenix Business Journal.
The current proposal for the arena has a location for South Packard Drive in Tempe. ASU’s hockey program has been previously based out of Tempe’s Oceanside Ice Arena.
If the arena is given a full go, construction will begin quickly in January, with a targeted completion date of December 2022.
In a meeting with the board on Thursday, ASU’s chief financial officer Morgan Olsen said the school already has a naming agreement for the arena that would be worth $16 million.
