Diamondbacks short stop Stephen Drew broke his right ankle Thursday, an injury that will keep him out the remainder of the season.
In response, the Diamondbacks called up infielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Reno.
Ransom, 35, has been tearing up the Pacific Coast League. In 92 games he tallied a .331 batting average with 26 home runs and a minor-league leading 89 RBI. He was named the PCL Player of the Week after batting .462 with four home runs and 13 RBI during the week of June 20-26.
A veteran of parts of eight Major League seasons, Ransom has a career .227 batting average with nine home runs and 39 RBI.
Before coming to Arizona he played with the Phillies (2010), Yankees (2008-09), Astros (2007) and Giants (2001-04).
