Not to the surprise of Suns fans, Phoenix’s Devin Booker was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Booker has been on an absolute tear over his last four games, averaging 33 points, 4.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds. He shot 53.8% from the field and 33.3% from 3-point land as the Suns took three of the four matchups.
He kicked off his week with 34 points against Damian Lilliard and the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. Booker was an impeccable 70.6% from the field and made both 3-point attempts and all eight of his free throws in the victory. He chipped in four assists and four rebounds.
The Suns put a 32-point beatdown on the Trail Blazers. It was the second time in two games the Suns won by at least 31 points.
Booker followed that up with a 33-point performance in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday before dropping 22 in a 106-97 win over the Chicago Bulls on Friday. The guard combined for eight assists and two rebounds over the two-game span.
It was Booker’s final game of the week, however, that had everyone around the league buzzing.
Dropping a season-high 43 points in the 118-99 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Booker was lights out. He shot 57.7% from the field (15-of-26) and made all but one of his 13 free throw attempts. He converted one 3-pointer (1-of-6). He also added five rebounds and five assists.
“He was in attack mode all night long … there was a moment I think after about the six-minute mark (of the second half) where he kind of took over the game and we stopped turning it over and that allowed for us to get some looks at the basket,” Williams said after the win on Sunday.
“That’s just Book. He’s a complete offensive player. I told him just now 43 points the way he scores the ball is not something I take for granted and no one should. It’s a gift and we’re certainly grateful for it.”
Booker will look to continue his efficient scoring Tuesday when the Suns take on the Los Angeles Lakers. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station at 8 p.m. for all the action.
As for the Eastern Conference, that honor went to Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo.
