The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated pitcher Taylor Widener off the injured list. The 26-year-old is slated to start Sunday’s matchup against the Colorado Rockies.
In a corresponding move, Arizona optioned utilityman Josh VanMeter to the Triple-A Reno Aces following Saturday night’s loss to the Colorado Rockies.
Widener will make his first pitching appearance since April 22, after sustaining a groin strain against the Cincinnati Reds.
The right-hander started four games for Arizona this season and has posted a 1-0 record with an 2.82 ERA and 18 strikeouts across 22.1 innings of work.
VanMeter has appeared in 37 games, averaging .159 to go along with 11 hits and seven RBIs. He has walked 11 times and struck out 23 times.
The D-backs look to break a six game losing streak Sunday as they finish out the series against the Rockies.
