Phoenix Zoo’s Fernando the sloth picks Suns as NBA Finals champions

Jul 6, 2021, 10:12 AM | Updated: 10:41 am

It’s not a true championship run until the animals start picking sides.

Just ask Fernando the sloth, who had a very eventful morning Tuesday deciding which team between the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks will take home the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Being that he hangs around over at the Phoenix Zoo, there may have been a bit of bias involved.

Given two baskets — one with Suns logos, the other with Bucks — filled with an assortment of treats, Fernando can clearly be seen analyzing the matchup.

Questions like, “Is Giannis Antetokounmpo gonna play? Can the Suns take advantage of his absence?” were most likely pondered by the Finals predictor siding with Phoenix.

That’s just what Suns fans want to hear given his track record for major sporting events.

In 2018, Fernando correctly picked the Philadelphia Eagles to knock off the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

The following season, Fernando was right yet again, selecting the Patriots to take down the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

He may be slow, but he’s steadily been ahead of the curve when it comes to picking championship games.

The Suns face off against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night.
