Cardinals offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum attended United Food Bank in Mesa to help pack emergency kits for children, seniors and people who are struggling in the Valley.

Food banks are a familiar place to Beachum and his family. He mentions the memories associated with them and how they have opened his eyes.

“The reason why ending hunger and providing solutions for food insecurity is so important to me, is because I was one of the ones that needed a place like this,” Beachum said.

“A place to be able to have meals. I was apart of the W.I.C (women, infants and children) program. I realized some of the issues and needs of the young people.”

Although just his second year in the Valley, the Cardinals offensive tackle is not new to charitable work.

Beachum was the recipient of the NFL’s 2018 Walter Peyton Man of the Year award while playing for the New York Jets. This award is given to one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community.

“I understand what it is to be a professional athlete and be able to give back to the families that need these resources,” Beachum said. “I am a huge proponent of food banks and making sure that there are policies in place so that young people, especially our children have access to not only food, but healthy food.”

Beachum will be joined by fellow Walter Peyton Man of the Year award winner J.J. Watt this season in Cardinal red.
