The Arizona Coyotes have submitted a proposal to build a new arena in Tempe.

The city of Tempe released a statement, not identifying the Coyotes, stating there was one submission for a mixed-use project incorporating a professional sports franchise and entertainment district off Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

“We are pleased to have submitted a proposal to the City of Tempe,” a team spokesperson said Thursday. “As regulations surrounding the RFP process dictate, we cannot comment any further at this time, but we remain incredibly excited about this extraordinary opportunity.”

Further details on the proposal have not been released.

The deadline to submit a request for proposals was 3 p.m. Thursday.

The city in the statement said the evaluation process will take many months and include extensive examinations.

The conclusion of the process would ultimately result in a public meeting and a vote to accept or reject an agreement with the team.

“The city of Tempe anticipates that the next steps in this evaluation process will take many months and will include extensive examinations,” said the city.

The city of Glendale announced last month that it would not renew its operating agreement with the Coyotes at their current home of Gila River Arena after many years of quarrels.

Prior to moving to Gila River Arena, the team shared a home with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns in downtown Phoenix at the Footprint Center, known then as America West Arena.
