Nothing has changed for Larry Fitzgerald as the first week of the 2021 regular season begins. The free agent receiver has neither retired nor had the desire to pursue playing an 18th NFL season as a 38-year-old.

“I feel great, Jim,” Fitzgerald told co-host Jim Gray on SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast released Monday. “I miss the interaction with my teammates, but I’m in a good place spending time with the family, playing a little golf, doing a little travel, getting a chance to spend time with people that you really never get a chance to spend (time with) at this time of the year.

“The desire to play is the same as it’s been. I’m very comfortable with that, but you never know what tomorrow holds. Right now, I’m very content.”

Fitzgerald, who spent all 17 of his NFL years with the Arizona Cardinals, turned 38 last Tuesday.

While he’s not been close to an NFL practice field since the end of the 2020 season, the 11-time Pro Bowler said he’ll be turning on football games over the weekend.

And yes, that includes paying attention to how some of his former Cardinals teammates are doing to start the year in Tennessee against the Titans.

“Absolutely I’ll be watching the games. I’m excited for a lot of my friends playing throughout the league,” Fitzgerald said, before listing off three Arizona players. “I hope Christian Kirk and Chase Edmonds and Kelvin Beachum and all my boys play well and have an outstanding season.”
