With the regular season ready to tip-off on Wednesday, the Phoenix Suns waived guard Chasson Randle on Saturday, the team announced.
The move was made because the Suns’ roster was at 16 players, but are allowed 15 for the regular season.
Randle made his NBA debut in 2017, where he went undrafted but signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. He also played for the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic.
Randle posted his best career year by averaging 20.1 minutes per game in 41 outings (five starts) for the Magic last season. He averaged 6.5 points, 1.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds with Orlando.
The guard played in four preseason games for the Suns, averaging 5.0 points and 1.3 assists in 11.0 minutes.
Phoenix decided to keep five different guards, including the newest acquisition, Landry Shamet.
The Suns will open the 2021-22 season at home on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets on ESPN.
Phoenix ended the Nuggets’ playoff dreams in Denver last year in four straight games.
