The Arizona Coyotes have claimed goaltender Scott Wedgewood off waivers from the New Jersey Devils, the team announced Thursday.

Wedgewood, 29, has played in three games between the pipes for the Devils this season. He’s posted a 0-2-1 record, along with a 3.19 goals against average and .880 save percentage.

A familiar face to the organization, Wedgewood spent time with the Coyotes during the 2017-18 season. In 20 appearances with Arizona, the goalie had a 5-9-4 record.

Wedgewood has played 43 games in his NHL career with both the Coyotes (20) and Devils (23), resulting in a 10-20-9 career record which included four shutouts.

With starting goalie Carter Hutton suffering a lower-body injury on Oct. 25 that’s expected to keep him sidelined for a few more weeks, the Coyotes have been relying on rookie Karel Vejmelka in net.

Vejmelka has been up to the challenge, posting 30-save performances the last two times the Coyotes have taken the ice. Vejmelka is currently sporting a 2.54 goals against average in eight games played this season.

Prior to claiming Wedgewood off waivers, 22-year-old Ivan Prosvetov was the other active goalie on Arizona’s roster. Prosvetov was later assigned to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners on Thursday.
