The Arizona Cardinals are set to play their first playoff game since the 2015 season on Monday, which will be the first of quarterback Kyler Murray’s pro career.
Carson Palmer was under center during Arizona’s last postseason trip, and he helped lead the team to the NFC Championship Game.
The former Cardinals quarterback shared some advice for Murray on Thursday’s Big Red Rage show.
“You’ve just got to go in with confidence and you’ve got to go in and lead because there are a lot of guys who are nervous, they’re worried, it’s their first postseason game,” Palmer said. “And you just need to be there for those guys and lead. ”
Murray has played on big stages from high school state championships to the College Football Playoff. He said this week that taking the field in the NFL playoffs is something he’s dreamt about since he was little.
He told reporters that he does not press in these types of games.
Palmer advised the third-year quarterback to make sure his teammates are all focused and not letting the moment become too big for them.
“You just have to do your job, one play at a time, and make sure you keep all those guys’ eyes in the huddle focused,” Palmer said. “Especially the younger guys, and find a way to get a win. It’s a rivalry game and it’s a playoff game. So there’s a little extra on it. Just find a way to win.”
The Cardinals will take on the Los Angeles Rams for the third time this season in Monday’s Wild Card round game.
Arizona won the first meeting 37-20 in Week 4. The offense put together sustained drives and did not turn the ball over in the win.
The Rams got revenge 30-23 in Week 14. The Cardinals were stunted by two turnovers and 11 penalties.
The rubber match will start at 6:15 p.m. from SoFi Stadium and will air on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
