The Arizona Cardinals have no interest in recently released linebacker Bobby Wagner, per Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Thursday that while Wagner is no longer a Seahawk, “do not be surprised if he actually stays in the division. There’s already interest in Wagner from three teams that he played against twice a year when he was in Seattle.”
With the Cardinals not interested in heavily pursuing Wagner, that leaves the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers as the only other options in the division for the eight-time Pro Bowler.
Coincidentally, the Rams reportedly decided against tendering linebacker Troy Reeder on Thursday. Reeder started 10 of his 17 games played, recording two sacks, 91 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed.
A Wagner signing to Arizona would also muddy up the team’s plans to get 2021 first-round pick Zaven Collins more run as the team’s starting MIKE linebacker alongside 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Simmons.
And after the team waived starting inside linebacker and captain Jordan Hicks on Wednesday, there’s a clear path for Collins to slide into a role that was originally handed down to him last offseason before the veteran retook the reins.
“Moving forward, there’s no doubt that we have to get those young kids involved more,” Cardinals GM Steve Keim told reporters during the NFL Combine last week.
Wagner just wrapped up his 10th NFL season, recording 170 tackles, a sack, one interception, a forced fumble, three QB hits and five passes defensed over 16 games played.
