Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun will be out for two-to-four weeks due to a lower-body injury he suffered in Saturday night’s 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins.
Chychrun picked up the injury in a collision with a Bruins player along the boards in the second period.
“We miss him out there,” Coyotes head coach Andre Tourigny told reporters postgame. “He’s on fire, he’s playing well for us. … It’s tough, especially quality minutes like Chych has been playing lately.
“(Head trainer Dave Zenobi) doesn’t think it’ll be that long. We talked — hopefully day-to-day or something like that. I don’t have the final say from the medical staff, but (Zenobi) was somehow positive, so hopefully he’s right.”
He returned for one shift, but was ultimately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The 23-year-old Chychrun has played well in recent games for the Coyotes with eight points, including five goals in the last five games.
He has seen his name centered around a number of trade rumors as the left-handed defenseman has value being young and having three years remaining on his contract.
Entering Saturday’s game, Chychrun had scored seven goals and tallied 14 assists on the year with his recent surge in production.
