The Arizona Cardinals are bringing in guard Will Hernandez for a visit over the weekend, per Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
The 2018 second-round draft pick (No. 34) out of UTEP just wrapped up his fourth NFL season, all of which have been with the New York Giants.
Adding another guard to the mix is among the top priorities for the Cardinals this offseason.
While the offensive line is mostly solidified behind starting center Rodney Hudson, left guard Justin Pugh and tackles D.J. Humphries and Kelvin Beachum, there’s a hole to fill at right guard.
Josh Jones originally had a hold on the starting job following a training camp competition that also included Brian Winters and Justin Murray.
But after Jones underwhelmed at the position early on, he was swapped out for Max Garcia, who is a free agent this offseason.
And despite Hernandez playing most of his snaps as a left guard, he did get some time this past season on the right side.
Hernandez has, for the most part, been able to keep himself on the field.
Outside of his two-game absence in 2020 due to COVID-19 and not seeing the field in the season finale, Hernandez has played in every NFL game (62) since he first made it to the league in 2018. Of those games played, he started 56.
As it stands Thursday, the Cardinals’ guards include Pugh, Jones, Murray and Sean Harlow currently under contract through next season.
