Devin Booker will start Suns’ Game 6 vs. Pelicans

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker will start Thursday night’s Game 6 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Head coach Monty Williams told reporters pregame that the Suns guard will play limited minutes but would not specify how many that would be.

The reported timeline for Booker to return from a hamstring injury was expected to be 2-3 weeks, per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst two days after the guard went down with the strain.

Since Booker was sidelined with the injury late in the third quarter of a Game 2 loss, the Suns have gone 2-1 in the games that have followed.

Before going down with the strain, the guard scored 56 points on 52.6% shooting (57.9% from long range) in 65 minutes to start the series.

Small forward Cam Johnson replaced Booker in the starting lineup. In the three games as a starter, Johnson averaged 9.7 points on 37.0% shooting (35.2% from three-point land), five rebounds and 2.7 assists over 32 minutes per contest.

Guard Landry Shamet has also seen an uptick in minutes (21.8 per game) with Booker on the shelf after not playing in Game 1.

Game 6 tips off from Smoothie King Center at 4:30 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
