Dalen Terry became the second Arizona Wildcats draftee to ship off to the midwest, heading to the Chicago Bulls with the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
He came off the board Thursday after fellow wing Bennedict Mathurin was selected sixth overall by the Indiana Pacers.
Terry joins a roster headlined by DeMar DeRozan. Chicago could have perimeter roles to fill with Zach LaVine heading into free agency, but it also has youngsters in second-year pro Ayo Dosunmu and wing Patrick Williams.
Terry took a major step in his sophomore season with the Wildcats.
The Phoenix native averaged 8 points, 4.8 rebounds as well as 3.9 assists (second on the team) on 50% shooting this past season for the Wildcats.
While Terry may not have eye-popping offensive numbers, he is well known for his superb defensive play, as he was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team in 2022.
The 6-foot-7 guard is a high energy player with exceptional playmaking as well as being tasked to guard the opposing team’s best offensive player a majority of the time.
Terry had an all-around game in Arizona’s second-round overtime victory against TCU in the NCAA Tournament.
Terry put up five points, four rebounds, five assists and added a game-high five steals in 42 minutes against the Horned Frogs.
He led the Wildcats in steals this past season with 1.2 per game.
Terry’s draft stock has been rising lately after he impressed in interviews.
While Terry shot a respectable 36% from behind the arc, his over jump shot is still a question mark, according to scouts.
Terry’s game is NBA-ready with his defense being the most intriguing part of his game.
