Grand Canyon University will hire Gregg Wallis as its next head baseball coach, D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reported Thursday.
Wallis spent the past nine seasons as an assistant coach with GCU before taking an assistant job with Ohio State earlier this offseason. He took over duties as GCU’s recruiting coordinator after the 2016 season.
The Los Angeles native has worked closely with developing outfielders at Grand Canyon.
Wallis replaces Andy Stankiewicz, who took the head coaching job at USC last weekend after 11 seasons with the Antelopes.
GCU reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two years and won the 2015 and 2017 WAC Championships under Stankiewicz’s and Wallis’ leadership.
The Antelopes lost in the Stillwater regional in June.
Wallis was with the program during its transition back to Division 1 baseball in the 2014 season.
He previously coached at Tennessee, Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine.
Wallis was the first-base coach and worked with outfielders and the offense at Tennessee, his last job before joining Grand Canyon.

He also operated baseball camps, oversaw the program’s academic liason and baseball operations at Tennessee.
Before his coaching days, Wallis played college ball at Irvine from 2002-05 as an infielder.
