Former San Francisco 49ers fullback Josh Hokit signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday as a tight end, the team announced.
Hokit, who will wear jersey No. 48, spent the past two years on the Niners’ practice squad.
The 6-foot-1, 226-pound Fresno State product also played fullback in college, where he rushed for 1,260 yards and 17 touchdowns with a 4.2 yards-per-carry average. He added 38 receptions for 260 yards and a score over that span.
The Cardinals have invested heavily in the tight end room this offseason, resigning veterans Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams while adding Trey McBride in the second round of the NFL Draft. Arizona also signed free agent Stephen Anderson.
General manager Steve Keim and head coach Kliff Kingsbury have used the tight end position as a testing ground of sorts.
Hokit joins a room that includes Deon Yelder, converted receiver Chris Pierce Jr. and Austrian prospect Bernhard Seikovits.
Seikovits was with the team’s practice squad last year through the international player pathway program.
