The Arizona Coyotes have signed forward Barrett Hayton to a two-year contract, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reports the contract has an annual average value of $1.775 million.
Hayton, 22, was a restricted free agent this offseason and comes to terms with a new deal the day before training camp begins for the Coyotes on Wednesday.
The Coyotes drafted Hayton fifth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and the forward would make his league debut a little over a year later in October 2019.
Hayton was unable to land a consistent role in Arizona for his first two seasons, playing a total of 34 games and amounting to seven points before last year, which was his first full season of playing time.
Across 60 games, Hayton scored 10 goals and dished out 14 assists for 24 points with a +/- of -8.
The Coyotes are coming off a 25-50-7 season with 57 points, the second-fewest in the NHL. Arizona starts preseason play on Saturday and kicks off the regular season on Oct. 13.
