PFF names former ASU cornerback Jack Jones defensive player of the week

Former Arizona State Sun Devils cornerback Jack Jones won Pro Football Focus’ Defensive Player of the Week award for his Week 4 showing against the Green Bay Packers.

The New England Patriots drafted Jones with the No. 121 overall pick in April. So far, he’s impressed head coach Bill Belichick and Co. Every week, Jones has seen a larger share of defensive snaps, culminating in his first career start on Sunday.

Starting in place of the injured Jalen Mills, Jones played all 72 defensive snaps. He registered seven tackles, forced and recovered a fumble and had an interception return for a touchdown.

The pick-six gave the Patriots a late first half lead at Lambeau Field and despite the overtime loss, proved significant with the team down to third-string quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Jones became the first NFL rookie in league history with at least one interception, pick-six, forced fumble and fumble recovery, since those numbers were tracked.

It was a good day for rookie Sun Devils, as running back Rachaad White also had the best performance of his young career.

The 23-year-old tallied five receptions for 50 yards in 24 offensive snaps. He also rushed for six yards on three attempts and scored his first career NFL touchdown.

White added 51 yards on two kick returns as well, giving him 107 all-purpose yards for the game. Even with the defeat, perhaps White’s performance nets him more snaps moving forward, especially in the passing game.
