Cardinals place RB Trey Benson on IR before regular season finale
Dec 31, 2024, 3:27 PM
The Cardinals placed rookie running back Trey Benson on injured reserve ahead of Arizona’s regular season finale on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Benson was questionable heading into last week’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams due to an ankle injury. He was a limited participant throughout the week of practice.
Year 1 has had its up and downs for the rookie, who has 291 yards and one touchdown on 63 carries. He’s chipped in another 59 yards on six receptions (six targets). There was just one instance of back-to-back weeks with at least eight touches over Weeks 9-10.
He was the 66th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida State, one of the first selections in the third round.
Running back Hassan Hall was signed to the practice squad in a corresponding move, as last week’s practice squad elevation, Michael Carter, will likely remain on the active roster with the news.
What other roster moves did Cardinals make before season finale?
Arizona signed offensive lineman Nick Leverett from the practice squad to the active roster.
Leverett has played 130 snaps this season, per PFF, all with the New England Patriots. He played 115 snaps at center for New England between Weeks 4-5.
Arizona’s center depth of Hjalte Froholdt, Jon Gaines II and Trystan Colon is healthy, although four linemen have landed on injured reserve: starting tackles Paris Johnson Jr. and Jonah Williams along with Carter O’Donnell and Will Hernandez.
