Arizona State football on Monday revealed a throwback uniform that pays homage to the program’s 1975 team that went undefeated.

The “Strategy” uniforms feature gold helmets with no logo and a maroon stripe down the middle, white jerseys without lettering on the chest and gold pants. The jerseys have maroon and gold striping on the sleeves with a sunburst Sparky on the shoulders.

At the 50th anniversary of the 1975 team, it was inducted into the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame earlier this year. It finished the year ranked No. 2 in the AP poll, the highest ranking in program history.

The combo will make its debut sometime in October, according to the reveal.

Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini teased with Arizona Sports’ State of the Sun Devils Podcast on Aug. 29 the throwback uniforms were his favorite combination.

“My favorite one is one that we have not yet announced,” Rossini said. “We’ve been working on it for a couple years. It’s a little throwback action that we’ll get to debut in a couple weeks, and I think our fans are gonna love it.”

The Sun Devils previously paid homage to the 1975 team in 2020, when the team wore a maroon-and-gold edition for a home game against UCLA.

What uniforms has Arizona State worn so far in 2025?

ASU wore close to its core home uniform in the season opener against NAU with the slight modification of gold helmets with maroon pitchforks instead of traditional Sparky helmets.

For the first road contest at Mississippi State, the Sun Devils went with white jerseys and gold pants, leaning with the alternate white Sparky helmet.

Catch Saturday’s contest against Texas State at 7:30 p.m. Hear the game on the Arizona Sports app, ESPN 620 AM or 98.7 FM HD-2. It will be televised on TNT.

When a team is floundering and dropping out of consideration for rankings, it’s always a good promotional opportunity to flout yourselves as fashionistas instead.

C’mon guys. Do better. I don’t care what they wear. I care that they lost to a perennial SEC doormat.

Was at that 1975 Fiesta Bowl on Christmas Day. A ticket to the game was my Christmas present. Greatest present ever. Devils beat Nebraska but lost out on the National Championship to Oklahoma, whose one loss the Kansas Jayhawks. We was robbed! Still haven't let that one go.

So what? Furries care about what a team is wearing.
