Former 4-star Arizona commit Burmeister chooses Oregon

After flirting on and off with the University of Arizona Wildcats, four-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister tweeted his commitment to the Oregon Ducks on Friday.

Burmeister, a dual-threat QB from La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego, verbally committed to Arizona in spring 2015. A couple weeks later, he de-committed, but then re-committed a couple weeks after that.

247sports grades the 6-foot-1, 196-pound quarterback as the 10^th best dual-threat QB of 2017 and the 33^rd prospect in California. He completed 59 percent of his passes in four years of varsity, throwing for 11,512 yards with 127 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.

It seems that new head coach Willie Taggart and his team gave Burmeister an offer he couldn’t turn down at the last second. The Ducks have been in QB limbo, trying twice to get Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa and seeing Ryan Kelley de-commit in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, losing Burmeister is another blow to the Wildcats, who now have 22 players in their 2017 class. Defensive end Bryce Brand, who committed in June, switched to Maryland in December after visiting the campus.

Cornerback Greg Johnson, considered the marquee recruit for the Wildcats, re-opened his recruiting later last month. News of that change came not long after Arizona defensive backs coach Donte Williams left the school for a job with Nebraska.

The Wildcats, who stumbled from being bowl regulars to a 3-9 record in 2016, have only Rhett Rodriguez, son of coach Rich Rodriguez, left as a quarterback commit. The Wildcats will likely be on the hunt for more players to work under center before spring comes.
