Former ASU star and MLB outfielder Andre Ethier retires

Valley native and former ASU star Andre Ethier has retired from Major League Baseball. Ethier spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he hit .285 over 12 seasons.

Valley product and former Arizona State star Andre Ethier has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.

Ethier spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he hit .285 with 162 home runs. Ethier was an NL All-Star in 2010 and 2011.

“I look forward to coming back to Los Angeles and Dodger Stadium, places I’m so lucky to have called home for the last 12 years,” Ethier said in a statement.

Prior to his time at ASU, Ethier starred at St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix.

Ethier excelled at ASU before being drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 2003 MLB Draft. Ethier was twice an All Pac-10 player during his time at ASU and ended his career with a .371 batting average.

Ethier dealt with injuries the final years of his career, and was limited to 36 games the past two seasons. He became a free agent after the 2017 season finished and remained unsigned.

The Dodgers will honor Ethier’s career in a pregame ceremony prior to their game against the Houston Astros on Aug. 3.
