Phoenix Mercury sign forward Devereaux Peters to provide depth

The Phoenix Mercury looked to add depth to the front court as they gear up for a playoff run following the WNBA All-Star break.

As the Phoenix Mercury look toward the second half of the season, they signed forward Devereaux Peters to help make a run for the playoffs.

Peters, who has primarily played off the bench during her five seasons in the WNBA, has career averages of 4.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game.

The 6-foot-2 forward has also played overseas in countries including Spain, Russia and Italy. Peteres also played with Phoenix guard Yvonne Tuner in Poland, where she averaged 13.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the field, according to the Mercury.

The Mercury have been in need of a replacement for starting power forward Sancho Lyttle, who tore her ACL on June 30. In the eight games following Lyttle’s season-ending injury, the team went 2-6.

The Mercury, with a 15-11 record, will resume their season on Tuesday against the Seattle Storm, who have the best record in the WNBA.

Phoenix is tied for fourth place in the Western Conference. The team has made the playoffs five years in a row.
