TEMPE, Ariz. — It was a return that happened quicker than expected, yet was a very long time in the making.

Tyrann Mathieu was back on the field for the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants, collecting one tackle in five plays.

It was the second-year pro’s first game action since suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee last December.

“It felt pretty good to get back out there, get a couple plays in,” Mathieu said.

For Mathieu, five plays was hardly enough. He understood the team was planning on easing him back into things, but the competitor in him wanted to be on the field more than he was.
