Former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Al Holcomb has been hired by the Cleveland Browns as the run-game coordinator and linebackers coach, reports NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
He will be following former Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks to Cleveland, whom was hired as the Browns defensive coordinator this offseason.
Holcomb served five years (2013-17) with the Carolina Panthers as the linebackers coach under then-DC Wilks.
In Holcomb’s one year in the desert, the Cardinals posted a rather impressive pass defense.
Arizona allowed the league’s fourth-fewest amount of yards through the air (204 yards per game), tied for the third-fewest passing touchdowns allowed (21) and tied for the fifth-most sacks (49).
Unfortunately for him, the Cardinals had the league’s worst rushing defense.
The team allowed 155 rushing yards per game and 25 rushing touchdowns on the year, both league worsts.
Holcomb did not return after Wilks was fired Dec. 31.
