ASU football debuts new agility field outside Sun Devil Stadium

Feb 25, 2019, 4:30 PM

ASU football unveiled their new Bro and Blegen Agility Field on Monday, which will be used for walkthroughs and agility training throughout the football season.

The field measures 53 yards wide by 35 yards long and sits on the north side of Sun Devil Stadium, right outside the Student-Athlete Facility. According to head coach of sports performance Joe Connolly, the convenience that the field provides will be a huge help in running practices next season and beyond.

“A football student-athlete’s time is of the essence,” Connolly said to thesundevils.com. “It’s extremely important, and we don’t want to waste their time, so this allows us a very quick transition from the weight room into some speed work. It’s paramount, not only from a physiological perspective, but also just a time perspective.”

“The advantages that we can take now coming straight out of the weight room allow us to get better every single day,” defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales said to thesundevils.com. “We can do anything from tackling to ball drills to walkthroughs, and it’s right here.”

The construction of the field was made possible by donations from alumni Betsy and Kent Bro, Mary and Jay Blegen and Linda and Bart Wear, who wanted to provide Sun Devil athletes with updated facilities to practice on.

“I am so proud to be associated with Sun Devil football and I believe we need to provide our student-athletes with the best tools to excel academically and on the field,” Kent Bro said to thesundevils.com. “The Bro and Blegen Agility Field is another step in making sure these student-athletes have the best facilities in the Pac-12.”

“Their generous donations are going to impact our building of the foundation of this football program, and we’re super grateful and excited that they were able to do this for us,” Gonzales said.
