Kyle Kingsbury finally has a new opponent.
On Tuesday, FOX Sports reported that the former Arizona State football star will face Patrick Cummins at UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose, Calif.
Kingsbury, who flirted with the idea of retirement before a life-altering experience convinced him to don the 4-ounce gloves again, has not competed since 2012 and is currently suffering from a three-fight skid after losses to Stephan Bonnar, Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa. Prior to this rough patch, the 32-year-old American Kickboxing Academy product was riding an impressive four-fight win streak, picking up two Fight of the Night bonuses in the process.
But while Kingsbury has taken almost two years off between bouts, his opponent will be making his third octagon appearance in just the last five months. Cummins, who is best known as the man who took a matchup with current No. 2-ranked light heavyweight fighter Daniel Cormier on just 10 days notice, is coming off a second-round TKO victory over Roger Narvaez at UFC Fight Night 42. This gave “Durkin” his first win inside a UFC octagon after years of struggling to find opponents on the regional circuit.
UFC on FOX 12 takes place July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose. The main card is set to air on FOX following the prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. A welterweight matchup between hard-hitting Robbie Lawler and the surging Matt Brown is scheduled to serve as the night’s main event.
Here’s how the rest of the card is shaping up:
- Matt Brown vs. Robbie Lawler
- Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
- Michael Johnson vs. Josh Thomson
- Daron Cruickshank vs. Jorge Masvidal
- Dennis Bermudez vs. Clay Guida
- Noad Lahat vs. Steven Siler
- Kyle Kingsbury vs. Patrick Cummins
