After logging just 14 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns power forward Marquese Chriss is being suspended one game by the team.

The reason for the suspension stems from a verbal confrontation with the team’s strength coach over a postgame routine that the Suns require Chriss to participate in, reports ESPN’s Chris Haynes.

“He violated a team rule. He probably won’t be with us for the game tomorrow,” Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said in a statement to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “He’s a good kid who had a bad moment. We look forward to seeing him on Monday morning so we can turn the page and move on.”

Chriss has played in 46 games this season, starting 40. He’s averaging seven points, five rebounds and one block per game.

At the start of the season, Chriss wasn’t in the best shape, according to Suns interim head coach Jay Triano.

He battled the injury bug for much of January, missing seven games due to ankle and hip injuries.

Upon his return, one of the question marks was his conditioning. Chriss admitted he was getting winded during practices.
