D-backs give inside look at new museum, cabanas at Chase Field

Mar 21, 2018, 8:04 PM

PHOENIX — The Diamondbacks revealed the newest improvements to the fan experience on Wednesday at Chase Field when they gave a tour to the media ahead of Opening Day.

A 20th Anniversary Experience museum, cabanas in right field and a virtual reality system were among the newest improvements to the D-backs’ home ballpark.

20th Anniversary Experience

A museum honoring the past and present of the Diamondbacks franchise, currently dubbed the 20th Anniversary Experience, includes a wealth of information and memorabilia. Located in right field, the museum includes Cy Young Award plaques, Gold Glove Awards, Silver Slugger Awards, a wall covered in autographed baseballs from almost all of the D-backs alumni, quotes from players, memorabilia from the 2001 World Series and 2011 All-Star Game, and more.

“I like the 20th Anniversary Experience the most,” Derrick Hall said. “I’ve watched it come along and to see where we are now, we’re not quite yet finished, we still have a few more touches to put on it, but I think this is great. I mean this is the history of our logo and of our stadium, the history of our franchise, all the great leaders we’ve had here, all the great leaders on the field and in the clubhouse. This is the most fun for me. It’s a perfect time to unveil that.

“We’ve been thinking about starting a mini-museum or exhibit hall for the past couple years and we thought 20th anniversary was the perfect time to do it and collect it all within our first 20 years.”

Virtual Reality

A virtual reality experience behind the batter’s eye allows fans to get a first-person perspective for real moments with the D-backs.

“We’re going to take really exciting moments that took place here at the ballpark,” Hall said. “Last year, we started creating our own content. When Chris Owings had the walkoff on Opening Day, that became our first bit of content. So you were actually right in the middle of that celebration on the field. We’re going to have more of those walkoff moments, we’re going to have big home run moments, we’re going to have moments in the dugout, bullpen, clubhouse. So a lot of exciting times that most fans wouldn’t be able to see behind the scenes, and they’re going to be right in the middle of it with VR.”

Cabanas

Cabanas will be available for rental at the Coors Light Strike Zone above the right-center field concourse. Fans get a partitioned space with their own comfortable seating areas, a television and access to an exclusive bar with drinks and snacks.
