The Arizona Diamondbacks will name Chris Garagiola their next television play-by-play broadcaster, moving him over from the radio side to replace former longtime TV voice Steve Berthiaume, according to Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com.
The D-backs have not yet announced the decision.
Garagiola took over as the Diamondbacks’ main radio voice after Greg Schulte retired following the 2023 season.
He first joined the Diamondbacks’ broadcast team in 2022 after calling games for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He worked mainly as the pregame and postgame host during his first couple seasons with the D-backs.
Garagiola’s Diamondbacks roots go way back.
His father, Joe Garagiola Jr., was the general manager under owner Jerry Colangelo from the team’s debut until 2005.
His grandfather, Joe Garagiola Sr., was a big leaguer for nine seasons who later provided color commentary on D-backs broadcasts from 1998 to 2012.
Berthiaume had been the TV play-by-play broadcaster since 2013.
