Cardinals ready for physical Steelers

Oct 18, 2011, 9:18 PM | Updated: 10:28 pm

It’s always an attraction when the Pittsburgh Steelers
come to town.

They’re the defending AFC champs. They’ve won six Super
Bowls. They’ve got an incredible, towel-waving fan base
in every NFL city, including Phoenix- a fact that should
be quite evident when the Steelers invade Arizona Sunday
afternoon.

The Cardinals’ roster and coaching staff are both
punctuated by men who have spent part of their careers in
Pittsburgh.

And since the Steelers beat Arizona in one of the most
memorable Super Bowls ever just three seasons ago, there
is a history between the two franchises.

Cardinals’ tight end Todd Heap knows all about the
Steelers, their mystique and their reputation of playing
tough, physical football. Spending ten seasons with the
Steelers’ most intense rival, the Baltimore Ravens, will
give you that type of knowledge.

Tuesday on Burns and Gambo on Arizona Sports 620, Heap was
asked bluntly by John Gambadoro if the Steelers are a
“dirty team”- a label that’s been liberally pinned on them
by many.

“There’s a fine between being dirty and just being
aggressive and playing all-out,” Heap said. “I would say
there are times when they’re right on that edge.”

Heap also said the physical play just comes with the
territory when you line up against Pittsburgh.

“It’s kind of just what you expect,” Heap said. “If you
just play your own game and play the way you’re used to
playing, it doesn’t bother you.”
