NBA Draft Profile: Jordan Hamilton

Jun 6, 2011, 7:38 PM | Updated: Jun 13, 2011, 4:33 pm

Jordan Hamilton is a 6-8 sophomore wing from Texas who can play both the shooting guard and small forward positions.

Hamilton is a five-tool basketball player (to steal a baseball reference), he can shoot, create, rebound, defend and play multiple positions. On the basketball court he is a perfect basketball player who can do anything he wants at any given time, his skills have never been questioned.

Offensively he sets up his game on the perimeter as a multifaceted weapon, the most dangerous weapon being his shooting. Hamilton can create points off the dribble or throughout the flow of an offense.

What hurts Hamilton at times, are his shooting mechanics and shot selection, as a freshman he routinely took every shot that came his way. As for the mechanics, what makes a great shooter is a high release and separation, Hamilton does neither, he brings the ball up both slow and low.

This is the biggest area of weakness that Hamilton will need to work on, with a higher release point on his jump shot he will be able to utilize his great shooting ability more. Those intangibles and skills are something the Suns have not seen in maybe 15 years, a scoring threat from the wing with great size and potential.

On the defensive end Hamilton has great size, strength and instincts that allow him to guard multiple positions. Hamilton uses those attributes on the boards, he is the best rebounding guard in this class and as a forward is one of the best amongst the likes of Derrick Williams and Kawhi Leonard.
