Suns hold workouts for Hamilton, Thompson

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns had Texas forward Jordan Hamilton and Washington St. shooting guard Klay Thompson in for workouts this week.

Some are hoping that the Suns don’t entertain drafting either player when their turn comes up at the number 13 spot in the 2011 NBA Draft.

“I don’t like either one of these guys,” said John Gambadoro on the Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash show on Friday.

Co-host Chris Hamblin also isn’t particularly impressed with either player, but if it came down to one or the other, he hopes the Suns take Hamilton.

“Only because his defensive ability is better than Klay Thompson and the upside is more. This isn’t going to be a guy that can start for you at all. He’s going to have to be a role player on your team,” said Hamblin.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but Gambadoro agreed that Hamilton would be a better selection than Thompson.

“I’m not a big Klay Thompson fan. Klay Thompson’s not going to be a good player in the NBA. Jordan Hamilton will have a better career.”

“Jordan Hamilton is a little more versatile. He’s bigger, a better rebounder and shooter,” said Gambadoro.

If the Suns have the same assessment, then it will be a no-brainer who to select if it comes down to these two players.
