Suns like a Morris twin — no, not that one

As the Phoenix Suns continue to workout draft prospects
they will gain a better idea of who they would be
interested in with the 13th selection in the June 23rd
draft.

As of June 13th, their choice may have the last name
“Morris,” though it may not be the one you’d think (or
want).

“I think that I would give the edge right now to Markieff
Morris over Marcus Morris, if it came down to them
drafting one of those players,” John Gambadoro said on
Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash Monday. “I do think both
players worked out well for Phoenix, from what I’m
hearing, good workout for both guys, definitely players
that they would consider at 13, and if both of them are
there I think the Suns like Markieff Morris a little bit
more than Marcus Morris.”

Gambo said what many think, which is that Marcus is
actually the better player. Sarcastically, that didn’t
surprise Sports 620 KTAR’s Mark Asher.

“Oh that’s good, so they’d go for the lesser of the two,
that makes sense,” he said on the show.

True, selecting one of a pair of brothers is nothing new
for the Suns. They did so both in 2008 and 2009, when they
took Robin Lopez and Taylor Griffin, respectively. Problem
for Phoenix is the fact that they always seem to wind up
with “lesser” brother, as Robin’s brother Brook is a star
in New Jersey and Taylor’s brother Blake is one of the
best young players in the game.

Then again, it’s not as if the Suns had the chance to take
Brook or Blake in those drafts, so you cannot really fault
the Suns for grabbing the player who is perceived to be
inferior.

That would not be the case this time around, assuming both
Kansas Jayhawks are on the board when the Suns are on the
clock, so unless front office proves to be more shrewd
than their counterparts they’ll be opening themselves up
for even more questions and doubt.
