What if?
What if my favorite team made that trade? What if that player didn’t get hurt? What if the referee hadn’t blown that call?
Playing “what-if,” although completely useless, may be the favorite game of sports fans everywhere.
While Suns fans may not want to revisit and disappointing 2010-11 season, Amar’e Stoudemire left them no choice.
“I figure all the teams that we battled with in Phoenix all went on to win a championship except for us,” Stoudemire told reporters at a marketing appearance Wednesday. “I figure if we stayed together one more year, we might have had it. We played Dallas every year, the Spurs every year in the playoffs, the Lakers every year in the playoffs. Each of those teams has won a championship.”
The former Sun does not say that Phoenix would have won a title, but even the suggestion has to pain Suns fans.
As they watched watched former Suns Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion celebrate their first NBA Championships, it had to pain them to know that they were missing Stoudemire.
No one can truly say how the Suns would have fared with the 6-10 forward, but Phoenix fans certainly would have appreciated the 25 points and eight rebounds that Stoudemire averaged this season.
