Not only is the NBA Draft a place for teams to select new players for their franchises, but it is also a time to trade current players and make a variety of other roster moves.
According to the Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro, one of the roster moves the Phoenix Suns are likely to make involves 34-year-old guard Vince Carter.
“They won’t trade Vince Carter’s contract, opting instead to buy him out for $4 million in the coming days,” Coro writes.
Although he did not play an entire season in Phoenix, the 2010-11 year was the worst of Carter’s career.
Last season was the fifth straight year in which Carter’s offensive production dropped. In 2010-11 the former dunk champion averaged 14 points and two assists per game.
In an attempt to get younger, the Suns will likely replace Carter by by either drafting or signing a younger guard with more upside. It has been reported they are looking at selecting either a guard or power forward with the No. 13 pick.
