NBA Draft Profile: Alec Burks

Jun 22, 2011, 11:02 PM | Updated: Jun 23, 2011, 5:53 pm

Alec Burks may provide something the franchise has not seen in nearly 20 years, a dynamic scoring shooting guard. He has the perfect frame, 6-6 195 lbs. and is both long and athletic.

As an attacking offensive guard he is the best in the class with an elite ability to get to the free-throw line and create his own shot. When he earns free-throw attempts he is nearly automatic (82.5%) which makes defenses play him more for the long range jump shots.

Off the ball Burks is a quality shooter, but has not developed consistency yet from deep. Once the jump shot has more polish to it, his form indicates that will not be an issue, Burks has all the weapons in his arsenal to be an elite scorer on the wing. As the focal point of every defense from the first game his sophomore year Burks did not let up, he was able to handle everything thrown his way.

While all the positives are there and the potential for greatness is there, he still needs to add to his frame for his game to be effective.

Burks is a little wiry, with his style of getting to the free-throw line he will take a beating in the NBA, the physicality is night-and-day.

On the Suns Burks would fit in nicely right in-between All-Star Steve Nash and defensive specialist Grant Hill. Looking to the future, Burks may be the best fit in the 2011 NBA draft to pair with Jared Dudley on the wing as an offense-defense combination.
