Analyst calls Phoenix Suns draft average at best

Much like mock drafts, trade rumors and ridiculous suits, NBA Draft grades are part of the yearly ritual.

There are always a few different grades for each team’s draft and this year’s Suns are no different. Some experts think it was a good pick while others think it was bland, but no one really questions the pick or seems to be totally outraged.

With their one pick the Phoenix Suns were average at best according to most of the national media

Although they addressed a need for defense and rebounding, CBS Sports gave them a B-.

Phoenix Suns: Markieff Morris. Grade: B-. The Suns went against the grain in terms of which Morris twin was expected to go first, and Markieff brings a physical presence that is currently lacking. He’s probably the better fit. The Suns addressed a position, but did they put themselves back on a positive trajectory? Seems like they’re facing the same problems as a franchise that they were yesterday.

CBS wasn’t the only ones who thought the Suns draft left something to be desired, ESPN’s Chad Ford thinks they may have drafted Morris a bit too early.

“The Suns decided they needed size and another defensive presence, and to get those qualities, they may have reached just a big for Morris here,” Ford writes.

While he may have been a reach, Yahoo thinks Morris is one of the biggest sleepers in this draft.

It will be a while before anyone can accurately grade this pick based on NBA performance, but at the moment, whether they drafted Morris too high or not, they filled a team need which is what the draft is supposed to be all about.
