Steve Nash named an All-Star reserve

Steve Nash will be going to his eighth All-Star game after
all.

Not voted in as a starter, the Suns’ point guard was
selected as a reserve by the Western Conference coaches.

Averaging 15.1 points and an NBA-best 10 assists per game,
Nash is playing as well as he ever has — including when
he won consecutive MVP awards.

It’s Nash’s sixth All-Star berth as a Sun, which ties a
franchise record.

At 38, Nash will be the oldest player in the game, which
is partly why his coach said
earlier Thursday
that part
of him wished his point guard would have the time off to
rest for the second half of the season.

“It’s kind of a catch-22 for me because, obviously, I
would love to have him have that week off and just kind of
be able to rejuvenate and rest,” Gentry told Arizona
Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo.

Gentry did say his star deserved to play in the game, so
it’s not like he’ll be bitter about the selection.

The 2012 NBA All-Star Game will be played in Orlando on
February 26. Nash will be joined in Florida by rookie
Markieff Morris, who was selected to play in the NBA’s
Rising Stars game.
