Lin is a top point guard but Nash is not?

Feb 13, 2012, 6:56 PM | Updated: 8:21 pm

Linsanity has taken over America, prompting some to ask
where the sensation ranks among the NBA’s best point
guards.

An ESPN poll asks fans to decide, pitting
New York’s Jeremy Lin against Chicago’s Derrick Rose, LA’s
Chris Paul and Boston’s Rajon Rondo. One other selection,
dubbed “someone else,” is also available.

And that’s where they put Steve Nash.

Nash, who was just named to the All-Star team, is having a
great year statistically, averaging 14.6 points and a
league-leading 10.3 assists per game. Those numbers are
not far off the ones he posted while winning a pair of
league MVP awards in 2005 and 2006.

In terms of scoring, Nash is only a couple of buckets
behind all of these so-called scoring point guards, but
this still wasn’t enough to me mentioned along with the
other “great point guards,” as ESPN puts it.

This seems a little reactionary. Even though Lin had a
spectacular week — especially for an undrafted player
from Harvard — he doesn’t deserve to be on the list ahead
of a lot of players, including Nash.
