PHOENIX SUNS

Season turned around, how far can Suns go?

The Phoenix Suns have gone from lottery discussions to the
playoff picture over the last few weeks, a turnaround that
has surprised a good number of people.

So, instead of wondering about who the team will draft
this summer, talk is now centered around just how good
this team is or can be.

Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby, as a
guest on Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf Wednesday,
isn’t sure.

“I think I’m trying to look at it positively and say that
we’re making progress, not just for the rest of this
season but moving forward,” he said. “Because I think
we’re playing hard and the approach we’re taking to
playing is better, the chemistry’s great and guys are
playing to their potential.”

Babby’s words come one day after the Suns suffered a tough
99-95 loss to the Miami Heat, a game that saw Phoenix give
up a 10-point lead over the game’s final seven minutes.

A big part of the problem Tuesday — and this season, as
Babby noted — was the team’s lack of a go-to scorer to
give the ball to late in games.

“It would be easier if we had somebody we could throw the
ball to in the last 10 minutes of a game and say ‘go get a
shot,'” he said. “We don’t have that yet and that’s
something we’re going to have to get at some point.”

Babby called the late-game struggles a bit of a “reality
check,” but added that there is no shame to losing a close
one to the Heat in Miami.

“I’m not particularly a glass half full guy, but I thought
[Tuesday] night was a good sign of progress.”
