Report: Steve Nash wants a three-year contract

If the Suns are to re-sign Steve Nash for next season,
they’ll also be adding him for the following campaign. And
the one after that, too.

According to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein,
Nash wants to “sign for three more years this summer.”

Even though he’s 38-years-old, Nash feels like he can keep
playing at a high level.

He expressed great satisfaction with the way his health
has held up through the rigors of a lockout-compacted
schedule that called for 66 regular-season games in a span
of about 120 days.

“It’s been my best year physically from start to finish in
a long time,” Nash said. “Other than a little tweak (last
week) against San Antonio, my back’s been pretty close to
100 percent.”

The Suns have been steadfast in their desire to have Nash
back next season, and it’s doubtful his desire to play
until he’s 41 would deter them from offering a contract.

After all, the guy is averaging 12.7 points and an NBA-
best 11.3 assists per game, all while shooting .537 from
the floor and .389 from three-point range.

In other words, the guy can still play.

However, any team that signs Nash this summer — Suns or
otherwise — will be doing so under the risk that, while
he’s managed to stay healthy up to this point, sooner or
later the player’s back issue could become too much to
handle.
