Eric Gordon a future Phoenix Sun?

Eric Gordon has had a tough first season in New Orleans.

After being traded to the Hornets in the deal that sent
Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers, Gordon led his
team to an opening night victory over the Phoenix Suns at
US Airways Center. Since then, it’s gone pretty much
downhill.

Gordon injured his knee, and has played in only five games
for the Western Conference’s worst team.

But there could be another change of scenery in Gordon’s
future, as the 23-year-old guard will be a restricted free
agent at the end of the season.

And according to Sam Amick of SI.com, the
Suns could be a player in the Gordon Derby.

As for Phoenix, the future of free-agent-to-be
Steve Nash (whose cap hold is a whopping $17.5 million)
would have to be resolved before Gordon could be added. If
the Suns renounced his rights in order to make a quick
move on Gordon, they not only would run the risk of
missing out on both players but also lose the ability to
go above the salary cap to re-sign Nash in the event that
they landed Gordon and the future Hall of Fame point guard
wanted to join him.

Amick also mentions Indiana, Portland and Dallas as teams
that could be interested in Gordon’s services.

It’s interesting to note that Gordon’s younger brother,
Evan, transferred to Arizona State to play for head coach
Herb Sendek, and will be eligible to play next season for
the Sun Devils. Gordon started his career at Liberty, but
moved to ASU to be closer to his older brother, who was in
Los Angeles at the time.
