The Arizona Coyotes signed defenseman Dakota Mermis to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Mermis played 59 games for the Tucson Roadrunners, the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate, this past season. He registered two goals and 17 assists for a total of 19 points.
The 24-year-old has nine games of NHL experience with the Coyotes.
Mermis is expected to battle for the No. 7 spot on the Coyotes’ roster at defenseman along with Ilya Lyubushkin, Robbie Russo, Trevor Murphy and Kyle Capobianco.
Arizona has Oliver-Ekman-Larsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Alex Goligoski, Jason Demers, Jakob Chychrun and Kevin Connauton all back next year, locking up their top six defensemen from last year.
A mainstay of the AHL the past few years, Mermis has 189 career games and 44 points with Tucson and the Springfield Thunderbirds.
