The Valley’s monsoon season was in full effect Monday night and it seemed to have an impact on the Arizona Diamondbacks’ contest against the Texas Rangers.

Midway through the game, many were noticing that dust was starting to make its way inside Chase Field.

Outside, there was a monsoon storm hitting the Phoenix area, bringing thunderstorm and dust storm warnings. There were thousands of reported power outages.

In the top of the sixth inning of a 4-4 game with two outs, the Rangers had runners on second and third against Arizona relief pitcher Jorge De La Rosa. Texas center fielder Delino DeShields was facing a 3-2 count when a good portion of the lights went out.

The umpires deliberated for a moment before deciding the game would be paused until all of the lights were back up to full power.

The staff at Chase Field took advantage of the delay with some topical music choices.

D-backs reliever Archie Bradley made sure to stay loose in the bullpen.

The delay would last more than 21 minutes before play resumed.

It was not forced by a baboon, despite ESPN’s Pedro Gomez’s unfortunate autocorrect of haboob.

DeShields walked on the first pitch back in action to load the bases and pinch-hitter Willie Calhoun singled to put the D-backs down a run heading into the bottom half of the inning.
