Suns, assistant Elston Turner part ways

According to reports that have been confirmed by Arizona Sports’ Craig Grialou, lead assistant Elston Turner and the Phoenix Suns have mutually agreed to part ways.

Turner was in his second season as a Suns assistant, and was considered for the interim head coaching job when Alvin Gentry was let go last week. Instead, that position went to player development coordinator Lindsey Hunter.

Turner played eight seasons in the NBA and has served as an assistant coach for 14 years.

The Suns staff now consists of Hunter and assistants Igor Kokoskov and Noel Gillespie. Some other changes could be on the horizon for the Suns staff.

Grialou also reports that Turner’s contract will be honored through the end of the season and he’ll be paid in full — the same agreement former assistant Dan Majerle reached with the Suns earlier this week.
